In this standard revenge western, Kirk Douglas untypically plays the US marshal who's escorting rustler Walter Brennan to jail with a hanging party on their trail. Douglas, in his memoirs, remembered the feature with some distaste. "I hated Along the Great Divide," he wrote, "I did it just to get my one picture a year obligation [to Warners] out of the way." He recalled the cruelty to the horses, the risks the stuntmen were forced to take and the sadism of the director, Raoul Walsh: "Critics talk about how Walsh movies have such great pace. They have great pace because he was always in a hurry to finish them."

An intrepid US marshal saves the life of a man condemned to death for murder, and vows to find the truth behind the slaying and bring the real culprit to justice. Western, starring Kirk Douglas, Walter Brennan and Virginia Mayo.
