Our Score
A starry cast, a decent build-up of tension and a surprise dénouement overcome a slow start and a superficial screenplay in this moderately enjoyable murder mystery. Van Heflin is the producer suspected of killing a young Broadway hopeful, with Ginger Rogers as his poisonous leading lady; the glamorous Gene Tierney plays another stage star, while George Raft is the purposeful investigating detective. Writer/director Nunnally Johnson's movie also benefits from Reginald Gardner's performance as Rogers's ineffectual kept husband, who props his ego via illicit liaisons that include one with the murder victim.
