Our Score
Irene Dunne, having disappeared seven years earlier in a shipwreck, shows up alive and well just after her husband, Cary Grant (on top form here), has remarried (to Gail Patrick). With a screenplay (by Kiss Me Kate creators Sam and Bella Spewack) that burns brightly for most of the way and a scintillating cast, this hit romantic comedy remains a delight. Producer Leo McCarey had directed the 1937 Dunne/Grant smash hit The Awful Truth and was due to direct this one, but had to let Garson Kanin take over after being involved in a serious car crash. It was remade in 1963 as Move Over, Darling, with Doris Day and James Garner.

A man remarries seven years after his explorer wife's disappearance - but the last thing he expects is for her to suddenly reappear. It turns out she has been stranded on a desert island, and he is tempted to return to her - until he discovers she was not alone. Screwball comedy, starring Cary Grant and Irene Dunne.
