Our Score
Though it doesn't physically exist, the internet is just as real a place to us as Starbucks - a paradox explored in an ambitious, if overstuffed adaptation of Chad Kultgen's novel. Anchoring the ensemble cast are Adam Sandler and Rosemarie DeWitt as the Trubys, both bored and looking for online kicks. He uses porn, she a dating site for love cheats, and through their son Chris (Travis Tope) we enter the dog-eat-dog world of high school. As one might imagine from Jason Reitman, the director of teen comedy Juno, this is where the meat of the film really lies, with a supporting turn by Jennifer Garner as a comically overprotective mother. On and off we see images of the spacecraft Voyager, alongside a voiceover by Emma Thompson that is so listless it sounds like a practice run. It threads together the many storylines, some of which you want to see more than others.
