Our Score
Two things immediately strike you about this straight-to-DVD story that centres on Peter Pan's fairy playmate. First of all she can actually speak, and second the traditional animation style of the original has been replaced by digital 3D rendering. Thankfully, that's as far as messing with the character goes, as the hot-headed little madam retains all those very human flaws that make her so likeable. This being an origins story, we see Tinker Bell arrive on a pollen stem in the fairy community of Pixie Hollow, where her dreams of joining the nature fairies are dashed when she's chosen to join odd-job brigade the Tinks. Her botched attempts at emulating the more glamorous sprites, including impatiently trying to teach a terrified young bird to fly, provide the most fun. While it's no great surprise that the diminutive heroine proves her worth in the end, at least sappy sentimentality and moralising are largely kept at bay, and there are a few pleasing touches harking back to Disney's 1953 original Peter Pan.

Summary

The mischievous fairy feels her magic powers are not as impressive as those of her friends and tries to change them - but an unforeseen disaster gives her the chance to prove her worth. Disney animated adventure, featuring the voices of Mae Whitman, Anjelica Huston, Lucy Liu and Jane Horrocks.
