Our Score
The kung fu-fighting animal novelty has slightly worn off with this follow-up, which lacks the awesomeness that made the original adventure so delightful. In the still gorgeously designed China, Dragon Warrior Po (voiced by Jack Black) must find his "inner peace" and learn the truth about his childhood. Only then can he defeat evil peacock Lord Shen (a deliciously malevolent Gary Oldman) and his plan to stop kung fu with a new super weapon. The movie is as busy and crisply detailed as ever, and the action sequences involving rickshaw chases, martial arts dust-ups and cannonball juggling score high. But the plot is all rather familiar and the dry humour feels forced, with the best scenes belonging to Shen's fast-feather dexterity. Despite the likes of Michelle Yeoh and Jean-Claude Van Damme joining the returning high-calibre voice cast, much of director Jennifer Yuh Nelson's feature debut is stale and the franchise drags, rather than races, towards the promise of another sequel.

Summary

Martial arts master panda Po continues to hone his skills when an evil peacock, who was banished from China for trying to build a deadly new weapon, returns to cause more chaos. It falls to Po to defeat him, but he suffers strange flashbacks revealing a connection between his past and the sinister bird. Animated comedy sequel, with the voices of Jack Black and Gary Oldman.
