Our Score
Director Mervyn LeRoy always enjoyed an exotic location, and this overlong Pacific island-set adventure was probably more fun to make than it is to watch. Our advice is to park your brains and enjoy old-fashioned Hollywood as it lurches into the 1960s, exploding volcano and all. Cast as an agnostic convict, Frank Sinatra gets a chance to act with his idol Spencer Tracy, who never turned down an opportunity to play a priest, his original calling. Even though it constantly tries your patience, this adventure remains compulsive viewing because of the sheer star power on display. Whaddya mean "they don't make 'em like this any more"? - check out Volcano and Dante's Peak.

A priest is sent to a South Seas island to replace a drunken missionary, who has been relieved of his duties. Sharing his flight are three convicts being sent to work at a children's leper hospital. The five men must work together to protect the young patients when a volcano erupts, leaving them stranded with no easy way out. Adventure, starring Spencer Tracy, Frank Sinatra and Kerwin Mathews.
