Review

Our Score
Unfortunately for Richard Burton, the next war film he starred in after the terrific action adventure Where Eagles Dare fell far short of his undoubted talents. However, it says a lot for the charismatic star that he was able to plumb the depths in this dreary Second World War movie about a British officer releasing prisoners to attack Tobruk, without doing any apparent damage to his career. Even the usually dependable Henry Hathaway (who directed John Wayne to an Oscar in the original True Grit) falters in this flawed effort that was originally meant for TV. If the action sequences look familiar, that's because they've been cannibalised from 1966 flick Tobruk.

Summary

However, he finds the only men available to him are prisoners, pacifist medics and the walking wounded, who he must somehow turn into a crack commando unit.
