This colourful B-western was co-produced by star Randolph Scott and Harry Joe Brown for their Ranown independent production company, and directed by the talented Budd Boetticher. This is an unusual entry in the Ranown cycle, since it's based on a novel in a cowboy series (the "Buchanan" books by Jonas Ward) and features a rather more cheerful, humorous hero than usually portrayed by the craggy, taciturn Scott. Here, Scott's lone wolf hero finds himself embroiled in a feud between the members of a powerful border town family. The myriad plot convolutions are mightily effective, but there are no standouts in the rather feeble supporting cast.
Summary
A drifter rides into a town dominated by the members of a ruthless family. He befriends a Mexican in jail for killing a man who attacked his sister and tries to save him from the gallows, getting caught up in the evil clan's running internal conflicts in the process. Western, starring Randolph Scott, Craig Stevens, Manuel Rojas and Barry Kelley.
