Our Score
Famous for its limousine sex scene, yet actually rather a tame affair, this Kevin Costner spy and counter-spy thriller provides a gripping insight into the corridors of US power. Based on the novel The Big Clock by Kenneth Fearing (originally adapted for the screen in 1948 with Ray Milland and Charles Laughton), this highly intelligent, intriguing movie contains some wonderful performances, most notably from Gene Hackman as an icily manipulative politician. For once, Costner's tendency to stay emotionally removed from his character pays dividends as we are left guessing about the man right up to the final reel. The "surprise" twist is a trifle daft, but overall this is a major treat.

A navy officer unwittingly has an affair with a politician's mistress, and becomes involved in the investigation after she is murdered. However, he soon suspects the plan is to find a scapegoat rather than the real killer - and that he is the most likely candidate to take the fall. Political thriller, starring Kevin Costner, Gene Hackman, Sean Young, Iman and George Dzundza.
