Our Score
Richard Curtis claims this cute comedic yarn will be his directorial swansong, which is a shame, as it's a return to form for the writer/director. Domhnall Gleeson stars as the young man who turns 21 and discovers that he can travel back in time. He uses this ability in the way that, perhaps, most guys would at that age - to get a girlfriend (Rachel McAdams). At first, it may appear that Curtis has been influenced by a stint on Doctor Who (he penned the episode where the Time Lord meets Van Gogh), but the movie turns into a beautiful celebration of those little moments in life that we all too often take for granted. Unusually, it isn't the boy-meets-girl story that forms the most touching thread, but rather Gleeson's relationship with his dad (a typically bumbling Bill Nighy) that gives the film its heart. And, once you overcome the limited scope of the story (if someone could turn back the clock, they might find more important uses for that extra time), it stands tall against Curtis's romantic comedy classics Notting Hill and Four Weddings and a Funeral.

A single man gets the chance to turn his unhappy life around when his father reveals that they both have the ability to travel through time and change their personal history. He uses his newfound talent to try to improve his love life and win the heart of an American woman he has fallen for. Romantic fantasy comedy, with Domhnall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams and Bill Nighy.
