Our Score
The inspirational true story of Canadian national hero Terry Fox is told in simple style in this well-made TV drama. Anchored by Shawn Ashmore's strong lead performance, it poignantly re-enacts Fox's incredible 1980 "Marathon of Hope" in which the 21-year-old ran across Canada to raise money for cancer research - despite having lost a leg to the disease. Though Fox is portrayed in an almost saintly light (1983's The Terry Fox Story gives him a more balanced character), the film resists excessive sentimentality, leaving it to the events themselves to tug at the heartstrings. Drab soundtrack aside, it's deeply moving, with the end footage of the real Terry liable to bring on the tears.
