Terry Staunton
This patchy comedy stars Kevin James as lovelorn zookeeper Griffin Keyes, who decides to quit his job at Boston's Franklin Park zoo in the hope that more sophisticated employment will help him win the woman of his dreams. When the zoo inhabitants learn of his plans, they let him in on their big secret - they can talk! - and set out to give him dating advice, animal kingdom style. Director Frank Coraci assembles a top-notch voice cast (Sylvester Stallone, Nick Nolte, Adam Sandler and Cher) to invest the beasts with some quirky traits, although the limp script gives them too few gags to work with. James stays true to type as the downtrodden everyman we've previously seen him play in

, but too often falls back on crudely telegraphed slapstick.
