Our Score
Alert viewers will quickly assemble the pieces in this watered-down yet watchable murder mystery that sees handsome lawyer James Thomas convinced foul play's involved when his otherwise healthy best friend suddenly dies of a heart attack. Assisted by his devoted cop pal (Victoria Sanchez), he naturally begins to investigate, while his love life sizzles courtesy of an enigmatic woman (Charisma Carpenter) he meets at the funeral. There's a whiff of Basic Instinct in the frequently signposted events that follow, as more fishy deaths are uncovered and a seductive Carpenter becomes a suspect. But the "did-she-or-didn't-she?" scenario is weakly handled and the truth proves extremely obvious, robbing the movie of crucial suspense. Fortunately, the half-decent performances of a ridiculously attractive cast and their dazzlingly white teeth keep you entertained. The murder method is pretty inventive, too.
