Our Score
This tongue-in-cheek espionage affair stars Bruce Willis as a former CIA operative whose status is "RED" (Retired and Extremely Dangerous), meaning his knowledge of previous covert activities makes him a security risk. Having found a potential soulmate in Mary-Louise Parker, his call-centre contact at the pensions department, Willis is looking forward to the next chapter in his life - until that future is interrupted by gun-toting assailants. Time, then, to assemble the old gang. It's here that Robert Schwentke's film plays its strongest card, a stellar cast: Morgan Freeman (stuck in an old folks' home), John Malkovich (a loopy survivalist), Helen Mirren (now doing occasional assassinations for fun) and Brian Cox (still working for Russian intelligence). As they reunite to fend off the two-dimensional baddies, all seems set for a jaunty spy caper. But the movie sadly runs out of inspiration, threading together perfunctory shoot-outs, middling wisecracks and predictable twists. There's the occasional twinkle from distinguished performers obviously not taking it too seriously, but this is by and large a waste of their talents.

A retired CIA agent survives an assassination attempt and realises something in his past has made him a target. He sets out to reunite the members of his old hit squad to find out who is trying to kill them and why, but in the process, uncovers dangerous secrets. Action thriller, with Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren.
