Our Score
"They've got a saying in Texas - the Rio Grande changes its course, the Saunders don't." Charlton Heston plays the inflexible Colt Saunders, a rancher who marries Anne Baxter's southern woman on an impulse and throws her out on discovering her unsavoury past. Tom Tryon is the one-armed Cinch Saunders who falls out with his brother. And then there's the post-Civil War adminstration making iniquitous tax demands. It ought to add up to highly combustible entertainment, but the characters are one-dimensional and, frankly, you couldn't give a damn.

A tough rancher falls for a woman he encounters at the end of the American Civil War, and promptly sweeps her off her feet. However, the couple's attempts to settle into married life are threatened by dark secrets in her past, as well as rising tensions both within the family, and on the political scene. Western, starring Charlton Heston, Anne Baxter, Gilbert Roland and Tom Tryon.
