Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

This mournful drama follows a young woman shattered by the sudden death of her brother. Her name is Clover (Ellie Kendrick), and she is studying to become a veterinarian, which is why she moved away from her Somerset home. After hearing about brother Harry's demise, she returns to the family farm, which has been decimated by the floods that swept through the area. Her father (David Troughton) insists her brother's death was an accident, but the police are ruling it as a suicide. What really happened? How did Harry die? These questions provide the film with some intrigue, while Kendrick is hugely impressive in the lead role. The story may be slow and uneventful, but it's peppered with moments that are quietly devastating. Exploring grief and loss, the feature debut of director Hope Dickson Leach is a brooding, affecting film about a father and daughter who can't quite find a way to communicate with each other.
