The plot of this thriller is as wobbly as Nick Cassidy (Sam Worthington), the eponymous man who, it seems, has no intention of jumping. That's a shame, if only because it removes a lot of tension which director Asger Leth tries to replace by having Nick's little brother Joey (Jamie Bell) simultaneously engaged in a break-in. As far as the performances go, Bell is the more entertaining actor to watch, as Worthington just doesn't have a commanding presence, even shouting from halfway up a skyscraper. His exchanges with the hostage negotiator (an unconvincingly hard-nosed Elizabeth Banks) are dreary and Ed Harris plays the villain so broadly he needs planning permission. In every way, this film oversteps the mark.
Summary
An escaped convict climbs onto the outside of a skyscraper and threatens to jump. The police psychologist sent to talk him down begins to suspect there is an agenda behind this suspicious-seeming suicide bid, while the prisoner's brother takes advantage of the ensuing chaos to carry out a plan of his own. Thriller, with Sam Worthington, Jamie Bell, Elizabeth Banks and Ed Harris.
