At least the first film offered the pleasure of Macaulay Culkin getting offed in a movie. No such luck this time and the result is an unthreatening, absolutely redundant sequel, in which the now adolescent Anna Chlumsky treks off to Los Angeles to find out what her real mother (who died during childbirth) was like. The nominal adult leads (Dan Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis) are left stuck at home with little to do but wring their hands with concern, and not even the appearance of 1970s celebs such as Richard Masur and John David Souther succeeds in enlivening the proceedings. Still, fans of the original (and there must be some) will probably love it.
Summary
Thirteen-year-old tomboy Vada visits her uncle in Los Angeles to write a school project about her mother, who died during childbirth. Meanwhile, she meets Nick, the son of her uncle's girlfriend, who has to reluctantly chaperone Vada round her mother's old haunts - but before long romance blossoms for the pair. Comedy drama sequel, with Anna Chlumsky, Dan Aykroyd, Jamie Lee Curtis and Austin O'Brien.
