Our Score
In a genre filled with noise and gimmicks, animation house Pixar have gone back to basics to make an imperfect but touching children's tale about what it takes to make your mark. It's set in the prehistoric era, where young dinosaur Arlo (voiced by Raymond Ochoa) must face his fears when he is stranded with a small cave-boy far from his family home. Director Peter Sohn (graduating from the animation department) elects to keep things simple, which proves to be a double-edged sword and it means this tale isn't quite up there with the studio's finest. However, the simple story is told well, with a mixture of visual gags and cleverly cast supporting roles (including Sam Elliott, pitch perfect as a grizzled T rex) creating genuine emotional investment that lasts throughout. While the storytelling is strong, the animation has to be seen to be believed. Stunning vistas turn the natural world into a larger-than-life character, providing jaw-dropping moments followed by thumping dinosaur action.

In a world where the asteroid impact that wiped out the dinosaurs never happened, humans have evolved as a primitive species while the giant lizards remain the dominant life form on Earth. A young apatosaurus becomes separated from his family, but finds a friend in a feral human boy as he makes the dangerous journey home. Pixar animated adventure, with the voices of Raymond Ochoa and Jack Bright.
