Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Boasting more national treasures than the British Museum, this tragicomic confection brings together the combined talents of Brit-film stalwarts Imelda Staunton, Celia Imrie, Timothy Spall and Joanna Lumley. Sadly, those talents are largely squandered on a contrived film that starts as mildly amusing class comedy, but speedily morphs into something more mawkish and less funny. Discovering that her well-to-do hubby has been two-timing her with her best friend, snobby Staunton takes refuge in the inner-urban flat of her more free-spirited, way less snooty sister, Imrie. There, with the help of pals Spall and Lumley, and courtesy of a crackpot plot that somehow manages to embrace both lung cancer and competitive dancing, relationships are repaired and forged, and life-changes made. With its quality cast and crew, Finding Your Feet could and should have been British film-making at its actorly best. Instead, it's a starry misfire that, far from finding its feet, falls flat on its face.
