Indonesian action star Iko Uwais plays an amnesiac hoodlum dragged back into a world of violence in this bone-breaking and bloody mash-up of Kill Bill and The Bourne Identity. Having been shot and left for dead by his surrogate family of killers, Uwais awakes from a coma with no memory of his past. But making a fresh start with his caring doctor (Chelsea Islan) is soon off the cards when his old gang learns he's still alive and try and finish the job, whatever the human cost. Even gore-happy action fans will find themselves wincing through some of the violent set pieces, as heads are thrust into walls, knives plunged through skulls and bodies riddled with bullets. The close-quarters fight choreography is convincingly realistic and captured deftly on camera, but this lacks the cheer-on appeal of Uwais's breakthrough movie The Raid and too often feels like an exercise in overkill.
