Our Score
Ah, the blarney overflows in this very Pinewood version of Catherine Cookson's novel of an Irish dustman in love. Liverpool-born John Gregson makes a likeable stab at the title role, but sadly lacks grit alongside the more authentic Marie Kean, Jack MacGowran, Noel Purcell, Liam Redmond and bedridden Barry Fitzgerald. And if they're all a little too much for you, then so be it, but the result is really quite charming. As un-Irish as they come are sweet Muriel Pavlow as Rooney's girlfriend and popular British crooner Michael Holliday off screen warbling, Bing-like, the title song. Produced by Tina Brown's dad, George H.

A happy-go-lucky Irish sanitation worker attempts to avoid marriage while indulging in a string of romantic escapades. Comedy, starring John Gregson, Muriel Pavlow and Barry Fitzgerald.
