Avatar villain Stephen Lang has a blast as a psycho with no soul in this otherwise flat and forgettable take on the classic horror story. It's a cautionary chiller about being careful what you ask for and plays like an old Tales from the Crypt episode, as the ancient, titular talisman grants wishes that have dire consequences for its latest owner (CJ Thomason). Husk director Brett Simmons opens strongly with a promising prologue, before bland scripting and a dearth of atmosphere and tension render the rest of the flabby feature decidedly dull. Tame and unimaginative kills add to the film's generic feel, leading to a deeply underwhelming climax. Ultimately, Thomason is smothered by Lang's joyful scenery-chewing, while supporting cast members, including Charles S Dutton, are completely wasted in underdeveloped roles.
