First Kill

In a low-budget film with low-budget aspirations, Hayden Christensen stars as Will, a father forced to help a bank robber in order to save his son. Beginning with a bizarre homage to deer hunting, the movie dissolves into a sub-par kidnap thriller. An interesting relationship develops between Will's nerdy son Danny (Ty Shelton) and his hillbilly kidnapper (Gethin Anthony), who form an oddly sweet bond over video games. Other than that, the story progresses in a predictable fashion towards an ending that will surprise no one. Christensen gives his all, but never quite convinces in the film's tougher moments. Meanwhile, marquee name Bruce Willis gives a disinterested performance as a local cop suspicious of Will's motives, appearing half-asleep during much of his sleuthing. First Kill just about holds your attention for 100 minutes, but leaves your memory much quicker.
