Comedy drama starring Jessica Brown Findlay and Tom Wilkinson. While trying to write a children's book, librarian Bella Brown rents a house with one stipulation in its lease - that she keep the garden in good shape. But with no interest in gardening, she soon runs into trouble with her landlord, as well as the curmudgeonly neighbour next door.
In the second feature from director Simon Aboud (Comes a Bright Day), Jessica Brown Findlay plays a would-be writer whose unkempt garden unwittingly leads to a friendship with her grumpy neighbour (Tom Wilkinson). While Brown Findlay is difficult to swallow as a quirky misfit, Wilkinson is decidedly believable as a spiky old widower. Their chalk-and-cheese relationship is padded out with subplots involving Jeremy Irvine's inventor and Andrew Scott's cook, and the whole thing builds to a satisfying pay-off. Though not quite the Amélie-style fairy tale it aspires to be, there's a comfort to This Beautiful Fantastic that makes it the cinematic equivalent of a pleasant stroll.
