Films about the search for oil helped fill Hollywood's own financial pipeline on occasion, and this was the biggest since MGM's Boom Town. The addition of rich Technicolor not only enhanced the blazing climax but also the red curls of fiery leading lady Susan Hayward. It's she who builds an empire out of the black gold with the help of Robert Preston's geologist and enters into an unholy partnership with oil baron Lloyd Gough. Producer Walter Wanger throws a conservation angle into this otherwise formula-bound entertainment as oil pollutes the traditional grazing lands of her native American friend, played by Pedro Armendáriz.

A cattle magnate's ambitious daughter alienates her friends with her single-minded pursuit of wealth as she attempts to fend off the unwanted attentions of greedy oil barons intent on stealing her land. Drama, starring Susan Hayward, Robert Preston, Pedro Armendariz and Lloyd Gough.
