Our Score
War may be hell, but for writer/director Samuel Fuller it's also a character workout that can temper personalities for the worse or the better. In this familiar story of a lost platoon fighting a rearguard action in Korea, it is Richard Basehart who is fused by events into purposeful command. Although the film never reaches the poetic heights of Lewis Milestone's similar A Walk in the Sun, there's the same understanding that men in battle are really at war within themselves. It's a theme which makes up for a lot of phoney heroics in other flag-wavers.

Among them is a timid corporal with no real experience of battle, who is soon forced into assuming command when all his superior officers are killed.
