Our Score
Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman clashed memorably in action thriller Air Force One back in 1997, but though they rematch here as rival tech tycoons, they can't resuscitate this moribund industrial espionage thriller. Owing a little to Oliver Stone's Wall Street, director Robert Luketic's film stars Hunger Games hot property Liam Hemsworth as a whizz-kid programmer who's tempted to sell his soul to pay for his ailing father's healthcare, as well as to feed his own ambition. Oldman (channelling Alan Sugar, perchance?) is the class act here, playing the corporate shark determined to find out what revolutionary gizmo his former mentor (a scarily bald Ford) has up his sleeve. However, where Stone's 1987 Oscar-winner was absorbing, tense and caught the zeitgeist, this turgid tale treads heavy water throughout. True, a movie that features Oldman and Ford (and Richard Dreyfuss as Hemsworth's crotchety dad) can't be all bad, but the bland leading man, lack of suspense and tedious panoramic shots of New York create feelings of inertia rather than paranoia.
