Our Score
Nativity 2 is aimed shamelessly at the most sentimental of movie-goers, especially those with children of primary school age. Like its predecessor, it pushes twee to the limit, and is only saved from tipping right over into awfulness by its clever, if manipulative, use of adorable non-actors in the schoolkid roles. David Tennant (replacing Martin Freeman from the first film) plays hapless new teacher Mr Peterson, while Marc Wootton returns as creepy classroom assistant Mr Poppy. All hell breaks loose after Mr Poppy persuades Mr Peterson to take his pupils on an unsanctioned coach trip to participate in a Christmas song competition in rural Wales. Tennant also plays his own estranged twin brother, who turns out to be the conductor of a snooty rival choir. What happens next is utterly predictable, frenetic and wildly overplayed. This could be good fun for younger children, and any accompanying adults will be OK as long as they're expecting nothing more than cute kids and creaky, old-fashioned comedy.

A primary school teacher enters his class in a Song for Christmas competition, and ends up having to lead the busload of excitable kids - as well as his irresponsible teaching assistant - on a disastrous trip to Wales for the event. The journey also leads to an unwanted confrontation with his high-flying twin brother. Comedy sequel, starring David Tennant, Marc Wootton, Joanna Page and Jessica Hynes.
