Our Score
The third feature-length adventure for the popular little blue "gnomes" finds plucky Smurfette (Demi Lovato) and the boys of Team Smurf traversing a trippy forbidden forest in search of a lost colony. But sworn enemy Gargamel (here voiced by Rainn Wilson, taking over from Hank Azaria) is after the whereabouts, too, as the wily wizard is desperate to harvest the village's untapped magical essences. The film sometimes plays like a series of scenes rather than a coherent whole, and some sad and mildly scary sequences may unsettle more sensitive viewers. But it's also fast-paced, colourful and fashionably girl-powered fun that, while treading no new territory, is perfect entertainment for younger kids.
