Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

The spiritual sequel to Richard Linklater's 1970s-set classic Dazed and Confused, Everybody Wants Some!! seems at first to be nothing more than a wholesome examination of sexual freedom at college. But look past its 80s details - Carl Sagan, vinyl and VHS - and you'll see the writer/director using a team of baseball players to examine the meaning of life via no particular plot. Our main man Jake (Blake Jenner) grows up before our eyes, faintly echoing Linklater's Oscar-winning Boyhood, revealing his true personality through ping-pong, baseball practice, pranking and partying. Although nostalgic for the beauty and confusion of youth as it tangles with the wider world, the film is overall a delicious, feel-good romp. Essential for anyone who was there at the time, the allure of young love - illustrated with knockout performances and quotable dialogue - makes it a must-see. Pacey and completely entertaining, this comedy rocks.
