Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Zac Efron plays a conservative, about-to-be-wed young man who's fooled into taking his recently bereaved but hedonistic grandfather (Robert De Niro) to Florida for spring break. With its crass gags, drug use, nudity and swearing, the film is as filthy as the title suggests - hardly surprising, given director Dan Mazer was one of the writers on Borat and Brüno. However, Efron gamely sends up his own persona, proving the perfect straight man for De Niro, who looks like he's having a blast (though you may never get over the sight of him rapping). The two leads share a winning chemistry, while Jason Mantzoukas's drug dealer also enjoys several hilarious moments. It may stray over the line of acceptable taste, but the film wins you over with its undeniable energy and star rapport.
