Take everything in this fictionialised biopic of circus inventor PT Barnum (Hugh Jackman) with a pinch of salt and you'll love the glitz, glamour and glow of an all-singing, all-dancing original movie musical in the grand old Hollywood tradition. As the self-confessed Prince of Humbug goes from marrying his childhood sweetheart (Michelle Williams) and redundancy to fame and fortune thanks to the popularity of his big top "Freak Show", La La Land lyricists Benj Pasek and Justin Paul's songs provide the melodic counterpoint to extravagantly staged routines overloaded with cascades of camp, yet unmatched in their vitality and exuberance. Jackman is a superb ringmaster with Zac Efron (as Barnum's showbiz partner) and Rebecca Ferguson (as Jenny Lind, "The Swedish Nightingale") providing top-notch support. Lind's power-ballad showstopper Never Enough is the musical highlight in debut director Michael Gracey's visually resplendent and lavish spectacle that skips the light fantastic with fabulous élan.

After losing his job as a bank clerk, PT Barnum creates and develops his circus in New York in the mid-1800s with the help of playwright Phillip Carlyle and an adopted family of entertainers shunned by society. Musical drama, starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson and Zendaya.
