A psychological thriller about the destructive relationship between a middle-aged man and his mother.
This dark psychological thriller revolves around a destructive relationship between a middle-aged man and his mother. The man is Carl (Toby Jones), a meek, isolated gardener who is rebuilding his life after a spell in prison. One night, he has a date with an attractive woman named Abby (Sinead Matthews). The next morning, he wakes up to find that she is dead. As Carl tries to figure out what happened, he also has to deal with the unwelcome arrival of his estranged mother (Anne Reid), who wants to repair their relationship. Did Carl kill Abby? Is she actually dead? Kaleidoscope is an ambiguous film that doesn't provide clear-cut answers, which is why some viewers might find that it is somewhat confusing. Nevertheless, there is a decent amount of intrigue and atmosphere, and the film boasts a typically absorbing performance from Jones.
