Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Oliver Reed stars here as a doctor experimenting with the new science of psychoplasmics, who persuades Samantha Eggar to "shape her rage" and give birth to deformed children with killer instincts. This genuinely creepy and upsetting stomach churner from David Cronenberg offers an intriguing metaphor for both unexplained bodily changes and the mental abuse some parents heap on their offspring. In one of her best performances, Eggar brings poignant emotional depth to what is a complex and underrated cult classic.
