Our Score
Around the time of Night Train to Munich and Kipps, Carol Reed also churned out this workmanlike if rather transparent murder mystery, adapted from Roy Vickers's novel. Reunited with Reed after Night Train, Margaret Lockwood heads a starry British cast as a nurse, whose patients have the unfortunate habit of dying after being poisoned. It's a pretty thankless role and she adequately performs the task of looking bewildered and persecuted as required. Barry K Barnes is charged with the task of defending her and Emlyn Williams is the butler who may have crucial information.

Nurse Anne Graham is controversially - but rightly - acquitted of murder after her elderly patient dies in suspicious circumstances. Changing her name she gets a position nursing wheelchair-bound Edward Bentley, little suspecting that his wife and the butler are lovers setting Anne up so that when Bentley is found dead it looks like a repeat of the earlier case.
