The Bobo

Robert Parrish (1967)

A Certificate

Our Score
Director Robert Parrish is both talented and underrated, but you'd never guess it from his mishandling of this bizarre Peter Sellers vehicle. An alleged comedy, made when the 1960s swung and Sellers was married to co-star Britt Ekland, this was one of a string of ill-chosen projects that tarnished Sellers's reputation before he returned to the Clouseau role in the mid-1970s. Here, would you believe, he plays an unsuccessful matador who has to seduce Barcelona's most desirable lady in order to get a booking as a singer. It's not very funny, but the locations are gorgeous, and the sublime Hattie Jacques is a treat as Trinity Martinez.

A bumbling bullfighter and would-be crooner is offered a lucrative singing contract if he can seduce Barcelona's most beautiful woman in three days. Comedy, starring Peter Sellers, Britt Ekland, Hattie Jacques, Kenneth Griffith and Adolfo Celi.
