Review

Rating: 2 out of 5.

The fact that some of the character names come from the poems of Lewis Carroll provides the clue that this Swinging Sixties comedy is trying too hard to be both clever and cool. Scripted as satire by George Melly, it's an infinitely inferior British rerun of Vera Chytilova's Czech classic Daisies, with Lynn Redgrave and Rita Tushingham playing the iconoclastic northern lasses trying to gate-crash the fame game. Desmond Davis (who directed the duo in Girl with Green Eyes) draws some knowing cameos from the likes of Ian Carmichael and Irene Handl, but otherwise seems ill at ease with the slapstick excesses.
