Our Score
This film was only released on video in the UK, perhaps because it was felt that we would rather count sheep than watch baseball. It is, however, a character study of a flawed talent - baseball legend Babe Ruth - rather than a sports film containing endless action. Capitalising on his success in the TV series Roseanne, and before the critical mauling of The Flintstones, John Goodman perfectly captures the hero's commitment, enthusiasm, insecurity and weaknesses, and helps distract from the fact that the film is episodic, not cinematic.

Biopic of baseball legend George `Babe' Ruth, a man renowned for his phenomenal talent for the game as well as his notorious overindulgence in food, drink and women. Episodic drama, content to reel off the most famous stories about this larger-than-life character, but with a charismatic performance from John Goodman. With Kelly McGillis, James Cromwell, Trini Alvarado and Bruce Boxleitner.
