Disney's Oscar-winning animation combines an East-meets-West story of brotherly love and loss, heroism and villainy, with a plethora of action sequences that are carefully structured for maximum intensity. In seaside city San Fransokyo (geddit?), young Hiro Hamada is wasting his time away battling robots when his brother Tadashi persuades him to put his genius in robotics to better use. But just as Hiro is ready to present his inventions to the world, he is forced to join forces with Tadashi's friends - an engaging mix of science nerds - to do battle with an evil megalomaniac. For Marvel comic fans, this has little to do with the original series, with central character Baymax transformed from a shape-shifting powerhouse on page into the cutest and cuddliest of balloon buddies on screen. And for parents, the initially powerful science-is-good message gets lost as the friends morph into a team of superheroes. But this film is for kids, and they will love the whooshing and swooping of the characters in what is a multicoloured sugar-rush of a movie, but without the diabetic consequences... Who can argue with that?
