Our Score
This standard piece of Warner Bros wartime propaganda stars Humphrey Bogart as a Broadway gambler who discovers a gang of Nazis plotting to sink a US battleship anchored in New York. The tone of the film is rather jokey, though it was released a year after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and consequently no one thought it was very funny. But Bogart is on decent enough form and the usual suspects, including Conrad Veidt and Peter Lorre, lurk in the shadows as they often did in these vehicles. And while there's no Mary Astor or Ingrid Bergman to provide a shoulder for the hero to cry on, little-known Kaaren Verne does well as the solitary love interest.

A criminal gang turns patriotic to track down a Nazi spy ring in this thrilling crime story!
