Our Score
by
David Parkinson
This brash, colourful and undemanding animated feature contains the best-loved episodes from the Lewis Carroll classic. Where it scores over its live-action rivals is in the depiction of the more fantastic figures, such as the White Rabbit, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, the March Hare and the Dormouse, which, while always more Disney than Carroll, are all engaging creations. Of the humans, Alice resembles her Tenniel original, but the Mad Hatter, the weedy King and the blustering Queen of Hearts are more imaginative and great fun. It's not among the studio's best, but it's certainly well worth watching.
Summary
A girl meets a mysterious talking rabbit and follows the creature down a hole in the ground. She finds herself in a magical world inhabited by all manner of bizarre creatures and dominated by a short-tempered queen fond of beheading those who displease her. Disney animated fantasy based on Lewis Carroll's novel, with the voices of Kathryn Beaumont and Ed Wynn.
