Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

According to your taste, the films Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor made together are either highly creative, witty and inspired, or contrived, noisy and tedious. This prison romp sees them play a couple of goons who leave New York for California, only to be wrongly imprisoned for a bank robbery en route. (On being sentenced, a disbelieving Pryor exclaims "125 years? Oh God, Oh God, I'll be 161 when I get out.") To give Sidney Poitier's film its due, prison clichés are cleverly lampooned with wild invention, and Pryor's chicken scene is one that will endure.
