Summary

Romantic comedy starring Steve Martin and Victoria Tennant. TV weatherman Harris K Telemacher is unhappy. He has little in common with his status-obsessed girlfriend and, being employed to predict the predictably sunny California weather, he's desperate for change. Then into his life steps visiting British journalist Sara McDowel.

Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Steve Martin's romantic comedy is a warm-hearted salute to Los Angeles pretensions. It boasts just enough quirkiness to satisfy any of his fans who were worried that he might be selling out and abandoning his "wild and crazy" persona. Martin plays a very un-Ian McCaskill-like weatherman, who falls for visiting British journalist Victoria Tennant while undergoing a mild midlife crisis. Martin's script has fun sending up some of the crazier aspects of LA life and he stages some lovely comic set pieces. The film's only failing is a sniff of sentimentality. There are some fine supporting performances from Sarah Jessica Parker, Richard E Grant and Marilu Henner, and look out for cameos from Patrick Stewart, Chevy Chase and Rick Moranis.
