Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

A disappointment after the exhilarating A Hard Day's Night, the second Beatles feature is still hugely enjoyable. Sweeping John, George, Paul and Ringo from Swiss ski-slopes to the beaches of the Bahamas, this extremely silly story follows the attempts of an Eastern cult (led by Leo McKern and Eleanor Bron) to recover a ceremonial ring that has ended up on Ringo's finger. Pop classics (Ticket to Ride and the title song) abound and there are plenty of sharp one-liners. Nevertheless, the grander scale and the needs of the story prevent director Richard Lester from repeating the wisecracking familiarity of the first Fab Four film.
