Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

The gags outdo the gore in this sometimes hilarious horror from Down Under, celebrating old school Ozploitation traditions in grand style. Brothers Cameron and Colin Cairnes make their winning feature directing debut with a genre staple about two brothers running a small bone fertiliser business in the outback. Guess what the secret organic ingredient is that has made them the market leader... Into this fraught atmosphere of rival siblings and liquidised human corpses come three city slickers (Anna McGaha, Oliver Ackland and Jamie Kristian) on their way to a music festival. Who survives the mincing machine comes down to the surprising dynamics between the characters. Its dark heart may beat with shock and horror, yet this simple but highly effective black comedy is finely judged and balanced with Damon Herriman giving a hugely likeable performance as the awkward villain. The cameo by Wolf Creek star John Jarratt adds extra credibility to the often startling and outrageous humour.
