Review

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Peter Finch marries Elizabeth Taylor and takes her back to Ceylon where his tea plantation has been established right in the path of commuting pachyderms. But domestic squabbles, an outbreak of typhoid and the promised elephant stampede do not prevent our heroes from producing a good, strong, freshly brewed cuppa in this solid imperial melodrama. In shots of the early car journey from the airport, the eagle-eyed may spot Vivien Leigh, who was originally cast as Finch's wife. But Leigh's illness in Ceylon led to complications and when the unit arrived back in Hollywood she suffered a nervous breakdown, necessitating her replacement by Taylor.
