Review

Rating: 2 out of 5.

Apart from a wonderful speech by Alastair Sim's world-weary producer about the errant ways of the British film industry, this is a hugely disappointing satire from the usually reliable pairing of Frank Launder and Sidney Gilliat. It was cruelly ironic that Pauline Stroud's real-life flirtation with movie fame should turn out to be as brief as that of the pageant queen she plays here, but she's not helped by a script so thin it wouldn't hide Godiva's blushes. Although the supporting cast reads like a who's who of 1950s comedy, no one is around long enough to make much of an impact.
