The Lad

The Lad

Henry Edwards (1935)

Our Score
Gordon Harker was such a favourite of crime writer Edgar Wallace that he frequently had material especially tailored for him. It's hardly surprising, therefore, that the actor is totally at home in this serviceable adaptation of one of Wallace's most popular thrillers. Posing as a detective to gain entrance to a country house, Harker soon realises he's not alone in having designs on a fabled family necklace. However, unlike his horsey rivals, he's not blackmailing, embezzling or two-timing anyone. Director Henry Edwards wisely keeps the action brisk and on the light side, as the mystery is hardly baffling and the performances are painfully stiff.

Convict (Gorden Harker) goes to a stately home intent on stealing but is mistaken for a detective.
